I’m definitely guilty. I want a farm. I really think I do. If only I didn’t have to go to work every day. I’ve had chickens before when I lived in the country- and it’s always been rewarding! We name them, we care for them and we enjoy every single egg they lay! It’s so much fun finding the array of colored eggs and learning each of their personalities. We embraced “breakfast for dinner” on a very regular basis!

So here we are, in a Rochester suburb and I feel the need for chickens again. Late January and I just couldn’t wait… so I bought day old chicks! We’ve been raising chicks in my sunroom- until I couldn’t take it and now they are in a brooder box in my garage. They’re almost adult chickens now and the other morning, I heard a strange noise in the garage. Turns out, two hens are not hens- they are ROOSTERS!!! Cock-a-doodle-dooing in my garage!!! I live in an urban subdivision that allows 6 hens only- no roosters!
I’m not kidding!
So luckily, they man is going to take them- so they don’t have to be executed… and I will get two replacement baby chicks!! Never a dull moment, but I love it! The chickens are FUNNY!
But Taylor and Niall are roos- so they’re out as of tomorrow! Sad, but they will live well on the farm where they came from. And I’ll get to stay in my house (no roos allowed here) and the show will go on!
Hopefully in June, we’ll start getting eggs! And hopefully we will have the new chicken coop done soon so they can get out of my garage!
Happy homesteading!
